The City of Ottawa operates under the Civil Service Commission.  Employment positions in the park department, street department, water department, wastewater treatment plant and some positions in the office, and telecommunicators are filled through Civil Service Testing and pursuant to Illinois State statute. 

Testing to establish a new eligibility register for the following classifications will be scheduled in  2013:

General Office
Park Department
Street Department
Telecommunicator
Vehicle Maintenance
Water/wastewater

Employment positions within the Fire Department and Police Department fall under the jurisdiction of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.  This Board meets the second Friday of each month at 4:00 p.m. at City Hall.
