City of Ottawa City Engineer Dave Noble has announced that beginning Monday, July 9, 2018 the I & M canal path and the canal bed from Guion Street west to Chestnut Street will be closed to the public. Detour signs for pedestrians and bicyclists that use the path have been posted. The closure is expected to remain in effect throughout the entire summer and into late fall.
Due to the amount of heavy equipment in use by the army and marine reserve personnel and general safety concerns, the canal bed will also be closed to the public. Parents are advised to remind their children that includes no bike riding at any time on the canal bed or slopes on either side.
The toll house near Columbus Street will remain available for tours as usual on Sundays during the re-watering construction project.
