All contractors must register annually to work in the City of Ottawa. The completed application and all required documentation may be mailed or submitted in person to the City of Ottawa, 301 West Madison Street, Ottawa, Illinois 61350, ATTN: Contractor Registration. ELECTRICAL LICENSE RENEWAL INFORMATION
City of Ottawa Electrical Licenses expire on December 31. Licenses can be renewed any time after December 1.
All renewal requests made after March 1 will be charged an additional $100.00 late fee.
All new and renewal license submittals must include the following:
- A $150 annual license fee, check or money order. Credit cards can only be used if paying in person. After March 1, a $100.00 late fee will be added.
- A copy of the license holder’s General Liability insurance coverage showing the City of Ottawa as Certificate Holder; or, a written note verifying the current employer and that the applicant does not do electrical work outside of that employment.
- A photo-copy of a current valid driver’s license or a photo ID that will be incorporated into the license.

All four items must be submitted together and mailed or dropped off at:
