Commissioner Dale Baxter has announced the implementation of a new, free City service for residents of Ottawa.  Based on the highly successful annual “appliance pick-up days” offered each June for two weeks, the program is now being changed to offer pickups every week.  Pickups will be made by request only.  The rules regarding what will or will not be picked up will remain the same as for the June pickup days. 

Pickups will be on Wednesdays beginning January 14, 2009 and continue weekly throughout the year.  Anyone who has metal appliances or items that are essentially metal to dispose of MUST first contact City Hall to request a pickup:

If you have additional questions you can email . All requests received before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays of each week will be picked up on Wednesdays. Callers will be asked to provide their name, address, daytime phone number and type of metal item(s) to be picked up. Items must be on the curb/berm by 10 a.m. that Wednesday.

Anyone wishing to have an appliance or metal item removed from a basement or second floor location may call Alice at Ace Auto, 1-815-442-8224, to make arrangements directly. Ace Auto does charge a small fee for removals that involve climbing stairs.
